What is brow planing, you may ask.  Brow planing is simply using a razor to shape the brows. So brow planing is brow shaving or razoring.  This is a great technique to use if someone is very sensitive to the pain involved with
tweezing, threading or waxing as there is zero pain involve.

Should I Offer Razoring?

Razoring may be a good option to introduce men to brow sculpting.  At their first visit, there would be no pain, etc. to make them shy away from a regular shaping.  Once they see how good they can look, they may be convinced and move on to a longer lasting hair removal service on their next visit.

Although some salons do offer this as a regular service, most women would not want to be in your chair every week for touch ups.  So, if you offer a one time visit with a lesson and take home kit, this may be a unique offering for new or skittish clients.  It is also a good option for the DIY eyebrow gal that feels she can do it on her own after one shaping from you.  She can still have beautiful brows between appointments by using this technique at home.

If a client cannot get in to see you as often as necessary or she hates the messy re-growth stage between visits with you, razoring may work for her.  She can keep your line intact easily, and then allow her brows two or so weeks of growth before her scheduled shaping visit with you.

What is the Brow Planer/Razor

The eyebrow planer or razor consists of a small, serrated blade that sits on a handle.
They are very sharp, so you must use caution when using.  You should use a new, disposable razor for each client.  You may give the razor to the client to take home for touch ups, or follow your State Board's rules for razor disposal.

How to Begin

Prep skin as usual.  Soothing lotion or skin salve/balm must be massaged on to the brow area to help soften the friction of the blade on the skin.

You may remove the hair with hair growth or opposite hair growth, whatever is most comfortable for the client and you.

On Top of Brow

Have client close her/his eyes.

Hold the razor at a 45 degree angle to the skin.  Apply GENTLE PRESSURE, only enough to remove the hair, there is no need to push down with the razor.

Start on the top of the brow and move the blade down, holding it parallel to the top of the brow.  Do the tail of the brow in the same way

Under the Brow

When working on the underside of the brow, in the arch, use the tip of the blade to remove the hair.

Between the Brows

In between the brows, angle the tool - not holding it vertical or horizontal, but somewhere in between.  Remember to keep the blade at a 45 degree angle.
